Fatal Stamp

Fatal Stamp

This stamp was printed on the Pennsylvania Journal as an act of protest to the Stamp Act of 1765; which levied a tax against many printed documents throughout the colonies.  The British crown thought the colonists should help pay for the troops still stationed there after the Seven Year's War, but many saw it as "taxation without representation".  This event is one of the major sparks that ignited the American Revolution.
