Devil Dogs

Heather Grey

The nickname Devil Dogs originally appeared in American newspapers in 1918.  It is said the nickname was given to Marines fighting during World War I in the Battle of Belleau Wood by the German forces.  The Germans said that the Marines were fighting like 'Teufel Hunden' or 'Hounds from Hell'.  Since then the nickname has become widely used to refer to Marines with the bulldog serving as the mascot of the U.S. Marines.

This is an officially licensed United States Marine Corps product.
