30 Minutes with Johnny

I’m sure that many of you are familiar with the king of t-shirts, Mr. Johnny Cupcakes.  For those of you that aren’t, no, he doesn’t actually sell cupcakes.  He does, however, sell t-shirts with his signature logo: a cupcake and crossbones worked into iconic imagery. And he sells a lot of them.  Johnny recently sent us a compliment on our brand through an online message board, and as I’m sure anyone else in our business would be, we felt extremely proud that he even knew who we were.  

I was visiting LA this past Labor Day weekend (hence the delay in shipping) and decided to stop in at his Melrose Ave. location (he has four shops in the USA and the UK now). And as luck would have it, I ran into the man himself!  I went up and introduced myself and he immediately remembered Declaration and told me how much he liked our unique concept and our products.  Johnny and I spoke for almost thirty minutes where he gave me a whole list of ideas for promotion, sales, products, and packaging.  Many of these ideas we are going to start rolling out in the coming weeks.  All the while during our long conversation there was a constant stream of fans approaching him asking for his autograph and to take pictures with him.  It was amazing that a man of such stature in the t-shirt industry took that much time to talk to me about our brand and to offer suggestions on how to improve it.  

So there you have it, one of the top selling t-shirt guys in the business is also one of the nicest.
